http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2010/09/100901-science-animals-evolution-australia-lizard-skink-live-birth-eggs/ [quote]Evolution has been caught in the act, according to scientists who are decoding how a species of Australian lizard is abandoning egg-laying in favor of live birth. Along the warm coastal lowlands of New South Wales (map), the yellow-bellied three-toed skink lays eggs to reproduce. But individuals of the same species living in the state's higher, colder mountains are almost all giving birth to live young. Very interesting indeed. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of women would be reptilian if they could be, so they could have the choice of giving birth to live children or laying eggs and waiting for them to hatch. That could go a long way in dealing with swollen feet, preeclampsia, prolonged 'morning' sickness, stretch marks, etc. |
