Fuck the American media! Why are foreign news always scooping our own??
Skeeve
More and more I'm reading about events in the U.S. on foreign news websites, while our media run after shit celebrities and missing white girls.

Case in point:

[quote]Occupy Oakland: second Iraq war veteran injured after police clashes

A second Iraq war veteran has suffered serious injuries after clashes between police and Occupy movement protesters in Oakland.

Kayvan Sabehgi, who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, is in intensive care with a lacerated spleen. He says he was beaten by police close to the Occupy Oakland camp, but despite suffering agonising pain, did not reach hospital until 18 hours later.

Sabehgi, 32, is the second Iraq war veteran to be hospitalised following involvement in Oakland protests. Another protester, Scott Olsen, suffered a fractured skull on 25 October.

On Wednesday night, police used teargas and non-lethal projectiles to drive back protesters following an attempt by the Occupy supporters to shut down the city of Oakland.

Sabehgi told the Guardian from hospital he was walking alone along 14th Street in central Oakland

This is why I don't watch the news on TV. I read BBC and other news from around the globe to get a well rounded story of whats going on in the USofA. The reason I don't watch US news stations is they have too many distractions.

Stop the draft week 1967, facing down the OPD, scared shitless. I abandoned a young women in a doorway knowing she would be beaten. I remain ashamed of myself to this day.

The Oakland Police Department has been foul for a long time. I know it personally. My opinion is that all police departments are foul but the one in O-town is one of the worst.

I suspect that it will get worse. A lot of public officials have made statements to the effect that they expect the protests to wind down as it gets cold. When that doesn't work they'll start getting nasty.

That is the purpose for my trip. The folks in Austin want to stay and are asking for bare minimal to keep warm. I am going to bring down a sh1t load of blankets and gloves/fuzzy mittens Grin
