Oklahomans without health insurance could lose their driverís licenses, state income tax deductions and even college football season tickets under a surprising approach proposed by state Insurance Commissioner Kim Holland.

How, in any universe, would this make sense?

If this is worded as reported, I would lose my drivers license because I can't afford health insurance. Without a license, I couldn't guarantee I would be at work everyday. Talk about making an existing problem worse through legislation.

Now can you see why not one county in this fucking state voted for Obama? They're all idiots.

For the first time in a LONG time i am rendered speechless to this. I have seriously been sitting here 20min trying every possible way to see how this would work. It won't.
Back in the day before I was working at my current place of business I was UNABLE to afford health insurance. UNABLE!!! Let me say this in a different way. If I had health insurance at that time I would of had no phone, internet access or even a place to live cause I was like, "hmm what bill gets paid this month." Yet another way: IF I had health insurance I would have been homeless.
If that actually passes, I can't wait to see the shit hole that state turns into and the Lynch mob going after Miss Dumbass.
That's right, I said it...

Thatís horrifying. Iíd certainly suffer from that. Although I very much doubt anything that extreme would get passed.

That is unbelievably asinine. If I had health insurance, I'd have my back worked on. What a stupid proposal.

I would dearly like to know what Insurance Commissioner Kim Holland's real motives are. I suspect special interests have been sniffing around and discovered something smelly about commissioner Holland.
I'll drink to that. Or anything else for that matter.

I suspect Holland's one of those "old money" types who has never EVER had to use something called "a budget" or have to choose between rent and groceries....

I do tend to agree with legislation that mandates that children get coverage, which is usually easy enough since states (at least PA does) tend to have free programs for those who might otherwise be able to afford health insurance for their children. Pay, not pay -- it's the the kid's problem and shouldn't be.

The insurance default problem is similar to the car insurance default problem, which is probably why they think this tack will do something. Like the car insurance thing though, it's a problem that primarily comes from the poor. Unlike the car insurance thing, it's generally not if you're going to need a doctor, it's when, and how often. While this solution seems a bit asinine, it's no wonder why they'd consider something so hostile.

A better plan might be to strongarm companies into including healthcare to everyone they employ. Of course, this might be a bad time, since it would result in far fewer jobs. Post-retirement, they might need to include it with social security. Socialist sure, but it seems at least humane.

Skeeve: I live in TX, and I'd be the first to say the same about Texans in general. Dallas County actually went for Obama, but Tarrant County (Ft Worth) didn't.
